How a family recording works
Record them cooking it
On your phone, in their kitchen. They do not have to explain it well, or in English, or in order. A clip or voice note you already have works the same way.
It reads what they did
The steps, the amounts they gave, and — plainly — the ones they never did. "A handful" stays a handful.
It stays private to your account
The recording is never published. Guides built from a family recording have no share button — that consent was for your household only.

Not to other users, not to a feed. RecipeMirror does not put a share button on a guide built from a private family recording.
RecipeMirror trains nothing on it
It is read to build your guide, and that is all we use it for. Reading it does mean sending it to Google’s Gemini, which on our current plan may use submitted data to improve their products — so please ask the person before you record them.
You confirm before the microphone opens
You confirm that everyone being recorded is happy for RecipeMirror to capture this recipe. That confirmation is kept with the recording for our records — the onus to have permission stays with you.
You can delete it, and deletion deletes
The account export and the delete are both real, and both include what was captured.
The best cooking you have eaten was never written down.
